History and symbolism

The obelisk is a monolithic monument which has its origins in ancient Egypt. Together with the pyramids, it is one of the greatest expressions of Egyptian monumental art. It is characterized by the elongated and thin quadrangular shape, ending with a pyramidal tip.

The quarries have a limited productivity, which is why it is a rare, almost unobtainable and highly prized marble. Calacatta Viola is mainly used for floorings, vertical coverings or furnishing complements in interior spaces and in polished or honed finishes. The Breccia Medicea was widely used by Cosimo I de’ Medici, lord of Florence, who had a monopoly on the quarries in Seravezza, and made the Breccia Medicea the symbol of his power by having it used in Florence Cathedral, the Pitti Palace and the Medici Chapels. Even today, when visiting the main museums in Florence, one finds Calacatta Viola used for door frames, fireplaces or cladding.

Marble Rosso Luana is a historical marble quarried from the Apuan Alps in Versilia with an original and lively colouring. The slabs are crossed by undulating veins coloured in different shades of red and interrupted by some white inserts. The texture of Luana Red marble is lamellar or serpentine and gives the material an elegant matt effect. Luana Red is widely used in local construction, especially for outdoor use and in particular for floors, stairs, tables and fireplaces.
