White marble kitchen / pharmacy mortar with wooden pestle
The name mortar originates from the vulgar latin mortarjiu s, derived in turn from the more ancient mortare (making parts) . The need to crush and pulverize some materials by percussion dates back to remote times and was initially practiced mainly using natural cavities and, then, perhaps even before milling with the millstone, with mortars almost always made of stone. The most ancient mortars are in hard stone (used, for example, by Etruscans and Greeks), marble or alabaster. Even the Bible testifies to its ancient use: “The manna was pounded in a mortar to prepare focaccia”
Marble is an elegant natural stone, which, painted by hand, gives this object an original and unconventional look, a truly unique piece.
All the great sculptors have measured themselves with this material which in the clearest variety is not by chance called Statuary. It is the marble of the great Italian Renaissance, which has delivered the magnificence of cities like Florence and works such as The David of Michelangelo, considered the most perfect masterpiece of all time, to the immortality of history.
The background tone is pearly white, slightly cloudy. It has intrusions and grayish spots more or less present and evident, it is a crystalline marble, with variable grain from fine to medium, homogeneous and compact.
